Electrifying your home heating system with a heat pump is one of the most effective ways to reduce your overall carbon footprint and make your home more comfortable. Ideal times to consider a heat pump is when you need to replace your existing heating or cooling system, when you want to add air conditioning (because heat pumps provide cooling as well as heating), or when you are considering rooftop solar. See Heat & Cool: Heat Pumps to learn more.
If you're not ready to buy a heat pump today, you can sign the Energize Acton Zero Emissions Pledge to develop a heat pump plan for the day your existing heating system fails. Because getting an energy audit, choosing heat pump equipment, and vetting and choosing installers can be a time-consuming and confusing process, it makes a ton of sense to be ready! You can't really wait until you are suddenly out of heat in the winter to start researching heat pump options, so it's important to PLAN IN ADVANCE.
What you can do today is to pledge to install only heat pumps for your future heating and cooling needs, and to develop a plan to do so, in advance.
To make the Pledge:
• Click on the orange "TO DO" button above on this page.
• Once you have developed a Heat Pump Plan (or Home Energy Plan) with a heat pump installer, click "Done" on this action!
• Make the additional pledge on the Acton Climate Coalition website (see Steps tab for this and other Steps to take).
To make the Pledge:
1. Go to the Description tab or to the Actions page and click on the TO DO button.
2. Research and select your options with heat pump experts and installers, as described at Heat & Cool: Heat Pumps. If you have a Home Energy Assessment (see Insulate & Weatherize to the Max), discuss with your Energy Specialist your options for installing a heat pump system now, as well as adding as much insulation as feasible (to reduce the size of heat pump needed).
3. If you choose not to remove your existing oil or gas furnace or boiler right away, develop a Heat Pump Plan (or Home Energy Plan) with your heat pump installer.
4. Make the additional pledge on the Acton Climate Coalition website. You may select:
5. When you've taken the Zero Emissions Pledge on this site, click Done! And please leave a Testimonial to share your experience with other Actonians.
