Buy Naked Stuff

One of the most effective ways to reduce plastic use is to buy products with less packaging.  Do your cucumbers really have to be wrapped in cellophane? Buy your fruits and vegetables "naked" instead.

Avoid unnecessary packaging:

  1. Pick "naked" fruits and vegetables in the produce aisle, without plastic bags, film or trays.
  2. Purchase dry goods in bulk. (Litterless and Unpacked Living have lists of places to shop in bulk.)
  3. Avoid single-serve products or items with multiple layers of packaging.
  4. Buy the larger container, as long as you won’t waste what’s inside. It uses less plastic per unit of product to buy the 40oz container of ketchup rather than the 20oz bottle.  This will save you $ too!
